Solutions, in my humble opinion 7/29/2018
Everyone, especially of my generation, the Baby Boomers, as it has been coined, have probably heard the phrase, “necessity, the Mother of invention. Today, that phrase seems to require a bit of tweaking and let me be the 1st to offer a different focus, NEED.
My updated, focused phrase is, “need, especially on the high-end level is the true Mother of creative invention”. This phrase is actual a compilation of my recent thoughts, thoughts and phrases plugged into my head via close friends and family. One quote that stands out is, “he who lived it, felt it", otherwise, if you have not actually walked in someone’s shoes, you have a smidgen of their experience, no matter how you slice it.
In feeling or filing the need, I tried walking in other shoes only to realize, what I was feeling seemed to be unique. I recently discovered an old sports injury that has crept up with the force of a hurricane in my daily functions, no, it’s not something sexy, a torn meniscus of my knee, the right driving foot. Mainly, it affected my driving more than walking due to the twisted needed to switch between the brake and accelerator while driving.. The twisting of moving quickly from one pedal to the other caused severe pain down to my ankle. After no more than 30 minutes of driving, I had to get out and flex/stretch my knee. If only for 60 seconds, the kink and pain subsided. I could not lose my love of driving or mobility in the huge LA driving vacuum.
Hence, the need, then the creative invention evolved. Over the days/week since the diagnosis, I have stumbled onto the creative invention. A hand assisted driving device. Mind you, I scoured the internet and products ranged from $299 to $1200 dollars for most driving assistance devices. I found a solution that fits my needs, $4.99.
WRAP UP…never take your eyes off the prize. For me, losing my love of driving, that feeling of freedom inside a tin box motivated me. Find that solution that works for you and bing, pow, splat….“NEED is the Mother of creative invention”.
